It was a royal pain. It haunted me in my dreams. <br />
<br />
Waaaaaaay back in June, I went to a garage sale and the lady tried to give me chairs. No seriously, she had like 15 chairs at this sale and she offered me at least 3 of them. For free. They were ugly. Really ugly. I painted and recovered one of them that was sort of a dining chair and sold it at our garage sale. And then this guy sat in my basement for over a month because I was too chicken to tackle it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Zdxi4D7JkB_8GPVBndjHDwvKt-XW3I8Jv6q_0p6j7An2-VzqwwsGr4GubKJKtrJ37j_Dgj8FtBdjNUvzjYMQlkYKk3OqnoUawKNN0NKH5Hwkjd01AHglg38CWdRci15y9gZ1L05tF1UU/s1600/DSC09710.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Zdxi4D7JkB_8GPVBndjHDwvKt-XW3I8Jv6q_0p6j7An2-VzqwwsGr4GubKJKtrJ37j_Dgj8FtBdjNUvzjYMQlkYKk3OqnoUawKNN0NKH5Hwkjd01AHglg38CWdRci15y9gZ1L05tF1UU/s400/DSC09710.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
Dun-dun DUN! The evil yellow 70's chair that nearly did me in. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQMs2Z9WKgsqxiKARGkjNsEAXUjFzK8HwfTdCtsbPAdEUTd-1ZXugQ7DREzO4rI7vgwDADDqUy5mvGvU7tpajsGsQJIEiZeYMN40z0a8j3w6DB7Fev9PmZdTigXnENhOQKGdjmshm54zJ2/s1600/DSC09714.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQMs2Z9WKgsqxiKARGkjNsEAXUjFzK8HwfTdCtsbPAdEUTd-1ZXugQ7DREzO4rI7vgwDADDqUy5mvGvU7tpajsGsQJIEiZeYMN40z0a8j3w6DB7Fev9PmZdTigXnENhOQKGdjmshm54zJ2/s400/DSC09714.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
Check out the gnarly nailhead trim. There was a time when I thought that I might just let it live in my my music room. The yellow <i>kind of </i>matches. And then I decided that July 12th was the day. That's right, it took us 14 days of blood sweat and tears to turn it to this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbXx56wmLWW6YIcVT_VthE0ddhGDhrZWk1A_eJE-OSNptcafnvVPvhSUpONFu4tjiYgBq97MQ1_g9MkBih6U79Lwmueg0hIjvb-6rtID-8VvPB0m5i6wyGw_xmRQKmC_v0vUPxJmgiVxZD/s1600/DSC09829.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbXx56wmLWW6YIcVT_VthE0ddhGDhrZWk1A_eJE-OSNptcafnvVPvhSUpONFu4tjiYgBq97MQ1_g9MkBih6U79Lwmueg0hIjvb-6rtID-8VvPB0m5i6wyGw_xmRQKmC_v0vUPxJmgiVxZD/s640/DSC09829.jpg" width="428" /></a></div><br />
Ta-da! It's kind of like our baby. We fought so hard to get this baby into the 21st century, oy. I scraped my hands pulling staples, made my knees raw from kneeling on the carpet, and nearly bruised my hand from the stupid staple gun. Yeah, I'm kind of a wimp. It's ok.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQHlcOzAV0mVn0MF4aSNHlV96gIg1ujoNXx91H07i1KKvnsBYxbCaxP019hrGu-jB8ZkDWIv7vVqskLjTJ4OX_ND6_bGHrfSx9Oi3g5bVTKuE3LPw7sciuPHARJXUe_iHawsB6T8ldWHWH/s1600/DSC09834.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQHlcOzAV0mVn0MF4aSNHlV96gIg1ujoNXx91H07i1KKvnsBYxbCaxP019hrGu-jB8ZkDWIv7vVqskLjTJ4OX_ND6_bGHrfSx9Oi3g5bVTKuE3LPw7sciuPHARJXUe_iHawsB6T8ldWHWH/s640/DSC09834.jpg" width="428" /></a></div><br />
Imagine trumpets sounding and bells ringing as we finally put the last staple in. Anyway, the fabric is kind of a cross between velvet and chenille and I got it for cheap cheap at Mill End Textiles. Nevermind that I bought 4 yards and used like, 2. ;) I bought the piping fabric and piping there too. This was, btw, my first time doing piping too. <br />
<br />
I had help. On that fateful day, July 12th, I found this awesome website/tutorial that was very helpful and encouraging and made everything look so easy. If you're doing some easy chairs, check out this <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/06/reupholstering-chair-part-1-stripping.html">link</a>. I think I'll go the easy route next time. ;) Oh, and Ted helped too. Actually he helped quite a lot. <a href="http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html">A LOT</a> lot. <br />
<br />
The button, however, was my own addition. I found a button-making kit at Michael's on sale for $1.50. It was exactly the right size and I didn't need a fancy button-covering contraption to make it. I love it! I think the button totally brings an element of class to the chair. I had to drill holes in the back of the chair to make it happen. Yeah. Just more blood, sweat, and tears. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG0qBhjYOswcsrQWLc5G97GUhQL0Vcssgr-LjZ0QQREXNFnsF_uWeNQOq1YPgwh2XOuj3i_DBder13OCwEB40_CAR33w8_i6F6ncHOVnO8XchTA-784Uqheb1gs_eddQoxA5WgjhkaUn50/s1600/DSC09833.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG0qBhjYOswcsrQWLc5G97GUhQL0Vcssgr-LjZ0QQREXNFnsF_uWeNQOq1YPgwh2XOuj3i_DBder13OCwEB40_CAR33w8_i6F6ncHOVnO8XchTA-784Uqheb1gs_eddQoxA5WgjhkaUn50/s640/DSC09833.jpg" width="428" /></a></div><br />
Notice that we chose NOT to put the nailhead trim back in. Instead we used piping around the arms. In retrospect, I totally should have just bought more nailhead trim. It would have made life much easier, but I like the way this turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO-tYY4k4cg2K4M6KhMhqZV91KbedYxkFpy7l4J86gU0YyYmQ_YLLYYBTndbAr0hfJJpnrrlzB1zioFK1H8u-drNlEeYF0kSmFiOKOJBYLMBJ0iEdCXzVerNyF8o7AleAu7NWnOK17u9ZC/s1600/DSC09844.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO-tYY4k4cg2K4M6KhMhqZV91KbedYxkFpy7l4J86gU0YyYmQ_YLLYYBTndbAr0hfJJpnrrlzB1zioFK1H8u-drNlEeYF0kSmFiOKOJBYLMBJ0iEdCXzVerNyF8o7AleAu7NWnOK17u9ZC/s400/DSC09844.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
Oh, and super bonus? Nori loves the black fuzzy fabric. She can play jungle hunter camouflage cat 24/7. She's already claimed the chair as her own.Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-25442455777670402582011-07-05T15:32:00.000-05:002011-07-05T15:32:12.312-05:00Happy (5th)!We had a great barbecue last night for the fourth. Some of our neighbors came and we also had some old friends from Pierre join us. <br />

Good friends, good food, what more could a girl ask for? Well, maybe a new flower bed? Voila!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvEoJTg5tj2skBNBtq4gzBR_Dr4D1refxude3cxCc844wsza_s6U7rgjvWQOsnl3rRyS9JPjYBi6hIwgAJ2NkzYajgtST1B-EvB6oR9Aea2DpzscAODjDDBBtHBfUchec-0yyuzjZETIqx/s1600/SANY0017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvEoJTg5tj2skBNBtq4gzBR_Dr4D1refxude3cxCc844wsza_s6U7rgjvWQOsnl3rRyS9JPjYBi6hIwgAJ2NkzYajgtST1B-EvB6oR9Aea2DpzscAODjDDBBtHBfUchec-0yyuzjZETIqx/s400/SANY0017.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
I love these new day lilies that are grape colored! I knew when I saw them that they were exactly what I wanted: a splash of color but a hardy plant. And of course a few hostas to fill everything out. This took us a LOT longer than the flower bed we did in the front yard, but T was so patient and worked so hard to help me put everything in. I love my hubby.<br />
<br />
So yes, a girl could ask for a new flower bed. How about an old dresser turned credenza? Say no more:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3pZGtyQjz-WPJELACdOjmFIk0dc4vFSLfosluaDC-P5KtltW5UIork8L45hb4b7pKfYlbWNg9xpBMtsefr2IpHmpbq_k3X1g508EYTCkbV-OJ5zDj4EIPhXfJVyb0rR2Rpq5KyJ4dhjjE/s1600/SANY0018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3pZGtyQjz-WPJELACdOjmFIk0dc4vFSLfosluaDC-P5KtltW5UIork8L45hb4b7pKfYlbWNg9xpBMtsefr2IpHmpbq_k3X1g508EYTCkbV-OJ5zDj4EIPhXfJVyb0rR2Rpq5KyJ4dhjjE/s400/SANY0018.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Here's the before photo:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJgLRZLVht0T5r5jzNNf3jxqLw39xEAw6R9mJFOfvbfrU7k1H28Mpca-GAIOsiBNmIXZbZAMX1gsq-e0YsvwFCfF6v_OzK7Rr523Wl6xaLXmT7-6AlkP9Ohhd0aUtJh2omWf6eu4KNQFhr/s1600/DSC09678.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJgLRZLVht0T5r5jzNNf3jxqLw39xEAw6R9mJFOfvbfrU7k1H28Mpca-GAIOsiBNmIXZbZAMX1gsq-e0YsvwFCfF6v_OzK7Rr523Wl6xaLXmT7-6AlkP9Ohhd0aUtJh2omWf6eu4KNQFhr/s400/DSC09678.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
All our DVDs, video games, controllers etc, used to go in the black boxes. Now they fit perfectly in the new credenza. We even drilled holes in the back of the new drawers and the back of the dresser so all the cords would hang out the back instead of our components cluttering up the top of the credenza.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifFQXbqqw1iPoq_IPgjtQRLS27lE772JFQvFe6-5oeCe22meQ88vIOcP063X9J4NGW34dCSAXocsIgA4hmT2BeM9Vu_79C0GB_GF54z-FO1vhnNFw4X3hlZowuuKUOpLmuxv0rZK7xOhlJ/s1600/SANY0020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifFQXbqqw1iPoq_IPgjtQRLS27lE772JFQvFe6-5oeCe22meQ88vIOcP063X9J4NGW34dCSAXocsIgA4hmT2BeM9Vu_79C0GB_GF54z-FO1vhnNFw4X3hlZowuuKUOpLmuxv0rZK7xOhlJ/s400/SANY0020.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />

Last month T and I worked on a little <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2011/06/suitcase-transformation.html">picnic basket</a> that we made from an old suitcase. Well, we finally took it out for a test drive.<br />
<br />

We went to the Japanese Gardens at Terrace Park. Oh how I love Japanese gardens. This one is no exception. It's on a lake and it has all sorts of beautiful landscaping, architecture, and walkways.<br />
<br />

The perfect way to spend a summer evening with my hubby. Awwww.Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-75891141241705548212011-06-28T11:30:00.000-05:002011-06-28T11:30:55.985-05:00Bookcase Re-StyleIt's really hard to type with a cat sitting on both of your wrists, but I'm gonna give it a go. Nori is a feeling a little lap-deprived since I've been gone for the last 2 days. It's time for some cat/mom bonding time, even if it involves impairing my wrists for the time being.<br />
<br />
Before I left, I read <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/06/analysis-of-a-well-styled-bookcase/">this</a> post on <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/">Centsational Girl</a> and was totally inspired. First of all, I love <a href="http://www.stylebyemilyhenderson.com/">Emily Henderson's work</a>, and I've always admired her bookshelf styling skills. She manages to combine just the right amount of quirky statuettes and old books to make me swoon. Also, I have a lot of time on my hands and love a new project. Enter: Project Bookcase Re-Style.<br />
<br />
We have 3 major bookcases on our main level, and we have a lot of books. Not like an obscene about of books, but a LOT of books. Anyway, here's our built-in hallway bookcase before I touched it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVVQUKCdMRGKzDkMGevlUk8CzcMPNh7UPxPg8xUi9_cKk4fnq3ssh6BmREwAH8pxRgLiDR2zAdOPI6DRBmXyogaCGV2ad3jKftEXpTffRVlo-ZEA1uj8wNdnxw5dlyorsE602xV3uF-Mhq/s1600/DSC09606.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVVQUKCdMRGKzDkMGevlUk8CzcMPNh7UPxPg8xUi9_cKk4fnq3ssh6BmREwAH8pxRgLiDR2zAdOPI6DRBmXyogaCGV2ad3jKftEXpTffRVlo-ZEA1uj8wNdnxw5dlyorsE602xV3uF-Mhq/s640/DSC09606.jpg" width="425" /></a></div><br />
Haha, this is almost embarrassing! This is probably not the best place for a catch-all, but it has turned into our place of stuff-stashing. Bottom shelf: lamp shade. Third shelf: random white shelf that needs to be hung in the bathroom. Fourth shelf: supplies for next crafty project. Fifth shelf: angel figurines from my recently deceased grandma that I haven't had the heart to put away yet. Shelves 6 and 7 don't look <i>that </i>bad, fortunately. <br />
<br />
And now for our living room shelves:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSZB2PYQsO8ZzEDNF1XL8yACvdL_t3XuCHGAY1Z1jCvCGvpNThj3FI8n8KBYhB-lGzKGhbLZZ8odVX92qmL8vl_cmd6Oafvmrn3ZrMKPin5P_o3VeK2pSDyrdHZTTs1eGwJGwEKZPkHeco/s1600/DSC09605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="541" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSZB2PYQsO8ZzEDNF1XL8yACvdL_t3XuCHGAY1Z1jCvCGvpNThj3FI8n8KBYhB-lGzKGhbLZZ8odVX92qmL8vl_cmd6Oafvmrn3ZrMKPin5P_o3VeK2pSDyrdHZTTs1eGwJGwEKZPkHeco/s640/DSC09605.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Just lots of books. And a black cat that likes to play jungle hunter by camouflaging herself against my black furry blanket. (It actually works pretty well for her, she's scared me a number of times that way.) <br />
<br />
I started by taking all of the books and arranging them by color on the hall bookshelf:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjriqaKBntxR9hktttgQuUg3MT0rsr-vSv6q62O695-cdnQI8nSPl-89aF5iEP1p8FZxF75HuN1It2jHpk6dx4aPa_M__3sfHHi2C-R01iF04v7slwMqMd9Cy4pUu4bqHcJt7rlHBxD7Dzi/s1600/DSC09610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjriqaKBntxR9hktttgQuUg3MT0rsr-vSv6q62O695-cdnQI8nSPl-89aF5iEP1p8FZxF75HuN1It2jHpk6dx4aPa_M__3sfHHi2C-R01iF04v7slwMqMd9Cy4pUu4bqHcJt7rlHBxD7Dzi/s640/DSC09610.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
I've seen a lot of people arranging their books by color instead of by content/title/author. Like <a href="http://www.curbly.com/capreek/posts/9986-how-to-organize-your-bookcase-a-stop-motion-adventure">this</a> one on curbly, or <a href="http://www.colourlovers.com/home/blog/2008/01/25/organizing-bookshelves-by-color">these</a> on colourlovers. I really like the way it turned out, even though I think it works better if you have a cubby bookshelf like the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40047675">expedit</a> from ikea or something. (T and I have been dreaming about getting an expedit for ages now...)<br />
<br />
Then I went to the thrift store and found some treasures....(the book is for T, he loves old medical books.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3iIY1G0G36u0Mzv8P9As4mlGvQdo5HqlS1uS5e1MtEboPtiSovsZwaCAT-b1m5OOWEx6TEpa0ASFQAqpSOCYz5CtRPLmUoVT5i4c-xkGNwieKEtAp1xkfB_-3aCwZlXYiKC_ptm1kiy8J/s1600/DSC09668.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3iIY1G0G36u0Mzv8P9As4mlGvQdo5HqlS1uS5e1MtEboPtiSovsZwaCAT-b1m5OOWEx6TEpa0ASFQAqpSOCYz5CtRPLmUoVT5i4c-xkGNwieKEtAp1xkfB_-3aCwZlXYiKC_ptm1kiy8J/s320/DSC09668.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
After literally hours of arranging, re-arranging, and re-arranging again, then coming back 2 hours later to re-arrange <i>again, </i>here's what I came up with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit6QSmvJ4bSIPZqxzSgjmEgMJqXXr1GcFldwRkKcA1EYWLttGDkB5gmxFQedyKOWlZodJle9mnZg0lIZ7VspzCNKjkcFmDhW4zGLZwiPB-5BQxeTHmHcKOEf5hvBDz1wzoy8tVuwiqTN9_/s1600/DSC09664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="485" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit6QSmvJ4bSIPZqxzSgjmEgMJqXXr1GcFldwRkKcA1EYWLttGDkB5gmxFQedyKOWlZodJle9mnZg0lIZ7VspzCNKjkcFmDhW4zGLZwiPB-5BQxeTHmHcKOEf5hvBDz1wzoy8tVuwiqTN9_/s640/DSC09664.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
People, I have a lot of white dishes. Yes, I know that. It's just that they're so charming and look so good against a black bookcase! I love the way it turned out. Midway through the process, I realized that I had a ton of old books stashed at my parents' house in my old room like the silver oil burner, the 3 blue bottles, and some of the books in the left bookcase. We had to leave T's old textbooks on the bottom 2 shelves because a) they act as an anchor because they're so stinkin' heavy, and b) we have nowhere else to stash them. So maybe I'm not Emily Henderson, but I think it turned out all right.<br />
<br />
Have any ideas on what I should do differently? I'd love to hear 'em!Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-42302822286083925752011-06-24T21:36:00.000-05:002011-06-24T21:36:17.253-05:00Flower Bed Re-VampLast year T and I were gifted some day lilies. We planted them in front of our house and they had maybe 2 blooms all summer. I thought I had managed to kill some of the hardiest plants around. This year though, they came back in full force!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8TcOswh3UoZLiCI_TYqOXl3wK5_1acgzl6NDYl7j43EtR8GiwvM4d4WcztQa7bP5yv_gKioNTPuTY46OObIslP4uDOl08ytWO7LBvtfdPEUZeoIOR1cFQ1GBf93qS3HtfqcME05nkcUVP/s1600/DSC09614.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8TcOswh3UoZLiCI_TYqOXl3wK5_1acgzl6NDYl7j43EtR8GiwvM4d4WcztQa7bP5yv_gKioNTPuTY46OObIslP4uDOl08ytWO7LBvtfdPEUZeoIOR1cFQ1GBf93qS3HtfqcME05nkcUVP/s640/DSC09614.jpg" width="425" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I get so tired of weeding the bed so T and I bought some black landscaping fabric at a garage sale and some gardening stakes. We laid the landscaping fabric down over the lilies and cut x's where the plants were. (In retrospect, we should have laid this fabric in April before they sprouted. I'm a little concerned that they got squashed, but we'll have to wait and see if they survived the trauma.) Anyway, we got the black plastic laid and staked, and it looked like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn2hYL9c6Kwb52BMIwkWqYmGfJcVEcbddn2-maSoDqqk3tSCUDb01skPde8xoGjhZwn9k7BqyXvoPjXlt6jmWRUaHt9oIl_bX1n9MYygQQu9h18bEk2MHD00CH3HVtPSsUHa0c9Gsu0CMF/s1600/DSC09619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn2hYL9c6Kwb52BMIwkWqYmGfJcVEcbddn2-maSoDqqk3tSCUDb01skPde8xoGjhZwn9k7BqyXvoPjXlt6jmWRUaHt9oIl_bX1n9MYygQQu9h18bEk2MHD00CH3HVtPSsUHa0c9Gsu0CMF/s640/DSC09619.jpg" width="425" /></a></div><br />
Yeah, it's lumpy, but we plan on getting some rock from craigslist to cover it eventually. Anyway, then the fun began! These blocks were on sale at our hardware store so after a long debate on how we should lay them, we got to work. I dug the trench and T pounded them into place:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjetZZrqg7r3tCoY0HB-_dSLY70iimuV8TrCthAHAmTPw_P9anNIhiDT2QWGQbHQBl9dSWLeSpphPhFl89mQwOZNJvqZ_XIE20lKHcUfFKAu8-55jMkaV4lpe08F7fFxB_JyEfHvxg4jwqB/s1600/DSC09627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjetZZrqg7r3tCoY0HB-_dSLY70iimuV8TrCthAHAmTPw_P9anNIhiDT2QWGQbHQBl9dSWLeSpphPhFl89mQwOZNJvqZ_XIE20lKHcUfFKAu8-55jMkaV4lpe08F7fFxB_JyEfHvxg4jwqB/s320/DSC09627.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
(Ted is actually working on the other side of the house where a hydrangea bush lives.) It was a glorious day outside today, perfect for manual labor!! I dug up so many rusty nails, worms, and this giant piece of styrofoam. So weird!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrjBVOOpGry3F4hn38nMDD-7cZMt3W1VV5oGYuB4_dcKA8M-lD-mRSPrioINDnXtqGJlpRtignVSvZPQUkXBioBtlO7uYD9pO8NWmF6iV-VQsNGo_6qyhm3UR1aTyvPAvLW2fK2bV-CaIr/s1600/DSC09644.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrjBVOOpGry3F4hn38nMDD-7cZMt3W1VV5oGYuB4_dcKA8M-lD-mRSPrioINDnXtqGJlpRtignVSvZPQUkXBioBtlO7uYD9pO8NWmF6iV-VQsNGo_6qyhm3UR1aTyvPAvLW2fK2bV-CaIr/s320/DSC09644.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><br />
Anybody know what the heck that came from? I sure don't. Anyway, we LOVE the finished product!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo6pwlcwf9BUAWen54q14y1OR108CIYB29Nvbo7PAdI81ZEBuoeld4dtoPi1p2phKWYbkmwAgjxOa93RSAZFD5UjxwkZccIv_xNKNuku2rIYvNVqBoxxbCSPrtZ-DSzFgZXic4ikhXy_Oy/s1600/DSC09639.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo6pwlcwf9BUAWen54q14y1OR108CIYB29Nvbo7PAdI81ZEBuoeld4dtoPi1p2phKWYbkmwAgjxOa93RSAZFD5UjxwkZccIv_xNKNuku2rIYvNVqBoxxbCSPrtZ-DSzFgZXic4ikhXy_Oy/s640/DSC09639.jpg" width="425" /></a></div><br />
These little blocks weren't intended to be set up on their side like this. I think they're meant for a retaining wall, but they would have been too tall if we had put 2 layers on, and 1 would have just looked silly. I think it worked out really well!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyNb7lWjbHlAYgpeeHYHTLEZh6UTu4lOv0GjiO3kGr-G_Beg1Sv6_KEEhZqnMpdCmCw0BkKhEKFXQLn4wWFUWCWROlg0lrT6WAQHMoWAZv0QBuegtehJpSNp8nKJ7f23o3sFoacAd-ZSBU/s1600/DSC09628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyNb7lWjbHlAYgpeeHYHTLEZh6UTu4lOv0GjiO3kGr-G_Beg1Sv6_KEEhZqnMpdCmCw0BkKhEKFXQLn4wWFUWCWROlg0lrT6WAQHMoWAZv0QBuegtehJpSNp8nKJ7f23o3sFoacAd-ZSBU/s640/DSC09628.jpg" width="425" /></a></div><br />
After we put the last of the bricks in, I had to fill in the rest of the trench with a little extra dirt.<br />
<br />

See my cute little gardening gloves? T bought them for me. And my little yellow kneeler. I have the best husband ever. <br />
<br />
More pics to come when we get some rock in! Have you been working on your garden lately? Tell me what you've been up to!Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-48349605726802890682011-06-23T08:00:00.003-05:002011-06-23T08:00:09.083-05:00Chairs 'n StuffI revamped the blog! Hooray! I am <i>not</i> a tech savvy person, and I have no clue when it comes to html. This is when I say thank you Jesus for google. This morning I showed T the new "Projects" tab and he looks at me and says, "I feel like we've done a lot more projects than that." Translated: "I know you've forced me to help you with way more projects than that." I thought about it and realized, (other than the severe lack of blogging in the last oh...6 months) we <i>have </i>done a lot more projects than that. Mostly, we've redone chairs. So, let me share with you. <br />
<br />
You've already seen <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2010/03/chair-story.html">a chair story.</a> This was our first foray into upholstery. Here's a pic of the chair in it's new home:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6gwPh9mDz8_Sr15mv8dy_aPF0h7WGoPU4jadWtAYOJauTAzXrk7sPScJTs5RJ25D8vN_H3Xvx8thybAhWm2WoXOJe6FHbCouFUOIhXvEiywdGzI-SqKWz-HJnCEnQc3Su6tKQjQ2ixiuN/s1600/DSC09586.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6gwPh9mDz8_Sr15mv8dy_aPF0h7WGoPU4jadWtAYOJauTAzXrk7sPScJTs5RJ25D8vN_H3Xvx8thybAhWm2WoXOJe6FHbCouFUOIhXvEiywdGzI-SqKWz-HJnCEnQc3Su6tKQjQ2ixiuN/s400/DSC09586.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
Now this next one isn't actually a chair, but it sits next to the chair and the same upholstery rules apply, so I figured I'd include it. This is our reading nook in our office. The ottoman was $10 at an estate sale and we recovered it in some snazzy red fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKcajfyJrXiKD1tQ6y7-E-LWBl54750TvdIttrYVfnDwIqdNSp9DDRNhI-4zig8s8bW2CQPRP02tqLxh7VbUnIiIfcoNUuiO0dU3StgBvEXR7XQ-uEIOJIfuu7_OT50g-e3TLbAersVDGp/s1600/DSC09580.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKcajfyJrXiKD1tQ6y7-E-LWBl54750TvdIttrYVfnDwIqdNSp9DDRNhI-4zig8s8bW2CQPRP02tqLxh7VbUnIiIfcoNUuiO0dU3StgBvEXR7XQ-uEIOJIfuu7_OT50g-e3TLbAersVDGp/s400/DSC09580.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />

(I had intended on the red matching the chair a little better, but oh well....haha!)<br />
<br />
This pair of chairs lives in our dining room. They're our extra dining chairs when we have more than 4 people at the table. They're pretty retro and we got them at a thrift store for $5 each. We decided not to re-paint them even though they're a little chipped and nicked up because we have a lot of wood in the dining room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx5E4mRqmhGuh5KxV4YooRGFsyqhCmgnrJCniqbKbvZQ7S3ZoDr4jeB1O1bGNdwMgPSalF39FhYhYxLmahnz6CQqMSwQkeV4ITWHzVizKEhInbwx_6O9t8FKpN4u97WKjFR9iUwEcdc84m/s1600/DSC09589.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx5E4mRqmhGuh5KxV4YooRGFsyqhCmgnrJCniqbKbvZQ7S3ZoDr4jeB1O1bGNdwMgPSalF39FhYhYxLmahnz6CQqMSwQkeV4ITWHzVizKEhInbwx_6O9t8FKpN4u97WKjFR9iUwEcdc84m/s400/DSC09589.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_zq5nkiDtptE4QPM0auUXigNHUDH7_1rXEazktHfmWkHdYS8F1qkTmOiLl26Ud-V3awh6Xrw76hAt34KYlN_C-ZY776gMT-9Qp3usK81h75AGJJuatvhZCBbIYu0puhGrYI0ZzRYIRPpq/s1600/DSC09591.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_zq5nkiDtptE4QPM0auUXigNHUDH7_1rXEazktHfmWkHdYS8F1qkTmOiLl26Ud-V3awh6Xrw76hAt34KYlN_C-ZY776gMT-9Qp3usK81h75AGJJuatvhZCBbIYu0puhGrYI0ZzRYIRPpq/s400/DSC09591.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
Now to the breakfast nook. These chairs were my very first purchase on craigslist.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnQcJV8W2_K3_7srekFoRFzjn69TCdgsL5GGpALBxcxQ3sL2vpg5BDyoh8pXe6j5ccgzX6KWQ95aiztyjUwu46h5LgKTfmtau5sbiXIJ_ImwP68mGREQia5BOZhEo2lJqK1Fn6fW2WDlwt/s1600/DSC09592.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnQcJV8W2_K3_7srekFoRFzjn69TCdgsL5GGpALBxcxQ3sL2vpg5BDyoh8pXe6j5ccgzX6KWQ95aiztyjUwu46h5LgKTfmtau5sbiXIJ_ImwP68mGREQia5BOZhEo2lJqK1Fn6fW2WDlwt/s640/DSC09592.jpg" width="428" /></a></div><br />
Here's our gossip bench that we recovered after we rescued it from a flea market. It's houndstooth fabric.<br />

This one I did just for fun and sold it at our garage sale. I got it for free from another garage sale, painted it black, and T and I recovered the cushion in composer fabric:<br />

<br />
And last but not least, my little desk chair from my music room. This one had a caned seat that was completely ripped out, so T and I made a seat from scratch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5-dUQXmq-wrmPYz2mIcVQTLlkWsP8uoi8e4z7We2hT0XE3BpimsQ6fHLHiP1yEqw75js995Yk8n7oUCzHuw5YU5Jhwz6HBClfYrRjNjMk5ZjCXjIUdlTSDp2gSYVeoVH6IFyto9IOA0sT/s1600/DSC09601.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5-dUQXmq-wrmPYz2mIcVQTLlkWsP8uoi8e4z7We2hT0XE3BpimsQ6fHLHiP1yEqw75js995Yk8n7oUCzHuw5YU5Jhwz6HBClfYrRjNjMk5ZjCXjIUdlTSDp2gSYVeoVH6IFyto9IOA0sT/s400/DSC09601.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
I cannot tell you enough how utterly easy it is to recover chairs, people! All you do is rip the old staples out on the bottom and then stretch and re-staple your new fabric where the old one is. We've replace a few pieces of foam, but that's relatively easy too. We cut it with a bread knife to fit the seat. ;) Cause we're sophisticated like that.<br />
<br />
Stay tuned for when I attempt to recover a<i> real</i> chair instead of just a seat cushion.Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-44592514015736089022011-06-22T09:00:00.002-05:002011-06-22T09:00:07.630-05:00Cake Carriers!About a month ago I found a treasure in a thrift store:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNwTIYtDmkCdSJz9WtafyiiwCHZDuT_DjYkBNfVHEd0zA8KcSXG-gGCSvY-KLfkTg24DBhrS3ZKSthUh-lx8I_ER1rLl8omfKUrdPS4uUZS_YN805DHV65weSE6rqdeBUssDOcHxYZvzpM/s1600/DSC09418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNwTIYtDmkCdSJz9WtafyiiwCHZDuT_DjYkBNfVHEd0zA8KcSXG-gGCSvY-KLfkTg24DBhrS3ZKSthUh-lx8I_ER1rLl8omfKUrdPS4uUZS_YN805DHV65weSE6rqdeBUssDOcHxYZvzpM/s400/DSC09418.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I loved the cute retro starbursts and had to have it. Then, I decided it needed a friend:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx-LW0nV7JRve-Z4SuH4UuXNQQZQEpORBiI2sSw1wcuT8SwJ97B9C-mwDgsKZ5sH3uGcxsAVJ5-2XwJrj_nVJKDvereTr-SfrhkZy5E6D1kraJiY-X4KmP94T25lnFRICMrciORCa8IlpZ/s1600/DSC09416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx-LW0nV7JRve-Z4SuH4UuXNQQZQEpORBiI2sSw1wcuT8SwJ97B9C-mwDgsKZ5sH3uGcxsAVJ5-2XwJrj_nVJKDvereTr-SfrhkZy5E6D1kraJiY-X4KmP94T25lnFRICMrciORCa8IlpZ/s400/DSC09416.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This is actually from the same line of cake carriers, from what I can tell. The little blotchy things are actually the same little starbursts from the first carrier! I about flipped out when T and I found this one at an antique store. Then, I decided to make it a party!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Yup, so there's a cake carrier party on my soffit!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

They have all sorts of vintage, antique, crafty things and we fell in love with it! I picked up a copy of Emily Posts' book <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">Etiquette,</span> a super-secret birthday present for my sister, and a new sign for our kitchen:<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
(Ironic, no?) Anyway, we also got inspired for a new project.<br />
<br />
My mom is a music teacher, just like me. But instead of teaching at a school, she teaches at home. This means she has 50+ children come through her home every single week. She always makes it a point to have a cute little vignette on her entry table that usually pertains to the season or upcoming holiday. Her students love seeing the display changes though the year. <br />
<br />
My mom also has a love for the old hymns of the church. She actually has quite a collection of old hymnals. Instead of letting the hymnals sit on a shelf unused, we decided to get all crafty and make a little display out of them. Actually, the idea was all hers, I just helped in the execution. ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKhj1GSQ2arrb0sjdaqfA2g2vfoIjISdqTtSuA11ymcHjvtkPhKWuu23ePcHwwiyzWMus_xx09NxTQnslI-ks1ruD4tHMZB8xTsP732CIMepPbnwRdAVjYw8Pc7lsBsrtqeSg81mFV_b8/s1600/2011-06-21_11-09-40_781.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKhj1GSQ2arrb0sjdaqfA2g2vfoIjISdqTtSuA11ymcHjvtkPhKWuu23ePcHwwiyzWMus_xx09NxTQnslI-ks1ruD4tHMZB8xTsP732CIMepPbnwRdAVjYw8Pc7lsBsrtqeSg81mFV_b8/s400/2011-06-21_11-09-40_781.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Sorry the pics are so fuzzy, it's from the cell phone camera because my battery died in my camera. Lazy. Yess. Here's a fun tip of the day: did you know that Menards has a super secret stock of scrap wood that they will sell you for less than a buck a piece? All this wood came from 2 pieces of scrap wood. Then we batted our eyelashes and smiled at the nice Menards man and he even <i>cut the wood for us!</i> FOR FREE! We jumped for joy. <br />
<br />
We went to town with black spray paint, mod podge, and this fabric flower <a href="http://create.northridgepublishing.com/departments/inspiration/fabric-flower-how-to/">tutorial</a>. These were so easy to make! I'm just sad you can't see them very well. That's 44 cents of Hobby Lobby tan and black gingham fabric and black buttons that we had. <br />
<br />

I mean, I <i>really, really </i>love them. Today my sister, sis-in-law and I spent the entire day antiquing in Stillwater, Minnesota. They're known for their awesome (and usually over-priced) antique stores. <br />
<br />
We also found some lovely boutiques and I found this treasure: <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE8-WGrkB-2lzfhKVHghogRo0vIneuNBAqroXWdeoIEH3dXG4HeomvMA-2iDEYQHGo6AgU3jXWvnj_SM2lVCjrGfW8wa3_jJloHoxc-PzeoQ02lnucHNhUzubAescZ1kWKCTLg4HrY_B0H/s1600/antique+store.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE8-WGrkB-2lzfhKVHghogRo0vIneuNBAqroXWdeoIEH3dXG4HeomvMA-2iDEYQHGo6AgU3jXWvnj_SM2lVCjrGfW8wa3_jJloHoxc-PzeoQ02lnucHNhUzubAescZ1kWKCTLg4HrY_B0H/s400/antique+store.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
It makes my heart skip a beat. It also reminds me of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogwarts#Room_of_Requirement">Room of Requirement</a>. Honest to goodness, that was my first thought when I walked up the stairs and saw this room. So many treasures to find! It's rooms like this that make me get excited digging through piles of old crap. You <i>never</i> know what you're going to find!<br />
<br />
You might, for example, find a blue ceramic elephant for $6.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNLu3u8rNzRvzCeUhpt7v2RNKTzvvKW9B9oQYf31B-kMEojdN2bjLEJ98y8778Ym0UncsEQIgIJ-nPqmaDGEr4UQEe8wtWJeyJNnZH_P2wRlfi9vIrcrGu_TIz6QelSHDYdL5zqjPJlk2O/s1600/DSC09563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNLu3u8rNzRvzCeUhpt7v2RNKTzvvKW9B9oQYf31B-kMEojdN2bjLEJ98y8778Ym0UncsEQIgIJ-nPqmaDGEr4UQEe8wtWJeyJNnZH_P2wRlfi9vIrcrGu_TIz6QelSHDYdL5zqjPJlk2O/s400/DSC09563.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>I love it! I'm still a little surprised that after all we looked at, I only found 1 adorable little elephant. Pretty retro, huh? Ted and I picked up a pair of these from <i>two different thrift stores</i> when we still lived in Pierre. We've been holding onto them for over a year now, and our guests and guest room have had to bear their ugly existence for far too long. I guess I just didn't quite know what I wanted to do to them to make them beautiful...until Tuesday.<br />
<br />

Yup, check out that fat drum shade. This thing is huge. Anyway, I knew I wanted something more modern and I knew I wanted a white base. I was thinking something metallic would bring it into the 21st century. I scoured Mill End for some pretty raw silk and instead ended up with this purplish grey taffeta. The plans were to use mod podge on the shade since that worked so well on our <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2011/06/suitcase-transformation.html">suitcase project</a>. Word to the wise: mod podge <b>will stain your taffeta</b>. Good thing I tested it first, eh? Now you know. Hot glue to the rescue!<br />
<br />

Ta-da! By the way, we have no idea what the wall color is, either. It changes with the light of day. Sometimes it looks mushroomy, sometimes green, and now, apparently it looks beige. Well, whatever. I love the way this turned out! And what's even more shocking is how easy it is to recover a lampshade. <br />
<br />

Sorry about the grainy picture, apparently I should have T take my blog pictures again. Photography is so <i>not my thing</i>. Did I mention that I got the fabric for $2.50/yd? Awwwww yeah.<br />

We have a guest that is staying in this room for the next month or so and I'm so excited that this year she doesn't have to endure the ugliness that was these lamps. Hooray!Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-57226572911050627692011-06-15T12:18:00.002-05:002011-06-17T09:33:38.815-05:00Suitcase TransformationI absolutely loved this inspiration project when I found it on <a href="http://Fun.kyti.me/index.php/2011/04/birthday-in-a-suitcase/">fun.kyti.me</a>: an old suitcase turned into a picnic basket! I've seen it re-posted everywhere and I <i>had</i> to try it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOy-S167NBupA8yCB_u3bZC8SVAbMBG3sPmqsCRZqtSt2oI_FCOpousB3KRuorCeINbyKUM23QDM4iZFmcTSDbisfZHyyySSUCNUaRBbHhmAhAvXjigfKC4F_wuNodW_2p6jNwDe-PlL9J/s1600/picnic+basket+suitcase+insp..jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOy-S167NBupA8yCB_u3bZC8SVAbMBG3sPmqsCRZqtSt2oI_FCOpousB3KRuorCeINbyKUM23QDM4iZFmcTSDbisfZHyyySSUCNUaRBbHhmAhAvXjigfKC4F_wuNodW_2p6jNwDe-PlL9J/s400/picnic+basket+suitcase+insp..jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now, I totally wish I would have taken a before picture of my suitcase, but I'm betting you can imagine what it looked like. T and I picked up the suitcase (which I thought looked like an old saxophone case) at a flea market back in May. We decided it was a perfect choice at a whopping $3.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHlCZx1v4X3q5YrPNTNKhlIBBBYImlBl6mmP2aHqxl_zYOUKl0WjgW2FmF7yNQSWjR79euT2RpxjW_c43t_6q1yVmAjK-KSDYBKJcjdfK0KTCKw36uxxB-IfDb0q_cvaqDUrbyuDYL-hgO/s1600/DSC09366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHlCZx1v4X3q5YrPNTNKhlIBBBYImlBl6mmP2aHqxl_zYOUKl0WjgW2FmF7yNQSWjR79euT2RpxjW_c43t_6q1yVmAjK-KSDYBKJcjdfK0KTCKw36uxxB-IfDb0q_cvaqDUrbyuDYL-hgO/s400/DSC09366.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It still ended up a little shabby-chic looking after we painted it, but what the heck? It gives it character!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQlrnPuvH7VUXuHcV9jPAfojZD28MYYiEiyFqQcCV0F6WRhm2rX7fi46st_Jzl0XNxSA6ZXobdHQyyc3d6qPagHYYhT-akdUG6im6uj5tnIcXMQ-cqnHH72J953BtFW5kKXh-x7RcXWh_I/s1600/DSC09374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQlrnPuvH7VUXuHcV9jPAfojZD28MYYiEiyFqQcCV0F6WRhm2rX7fi46st_Jzl0XNxSA6ZXobdHQyyc3d6qPagHYYhT-akdUG6im6uj5tnIcXMQ-cqnHH72J953BtFW5kKXh-x7RcXWh_I/s400/DSC09374.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We attached the fabric with mod podge, found a coordinating ribbon and went to town with our staple gun, velcro, super glue, and hot glue. Do you like how my first picnic includes diet coke, apples, and mock triscuits? Hee hee, that's right.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I added the little napkin pocket on the side because I thought it looked more like a suitcase that way. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I already had these fabulous hula plates from a garage sale last year ($2?) and the cups I got on clearance at Target last year, intending to use them for outdoor dining. The plastic flatware I got at World Market on clearance ($3 for 4 place settings). I love it! We had the napkins too. <br />
<br />

My friend Meg taught me how to make these fun fabric flowers. She had them as pins on her purse, but I decided to dress up the front of the suitcase. They're so easy to make! <br />
<br />
A big thanks to T on this one as he put up with my hot glue fits and stubborn perfectionist tendencies. ;)<br />
<br />

Yes, I wore my hat the entire game, and I was wishing that I would have brought a blanket. Luckily I wore my boots. I am a wimp when it comes to cold, it's true. The Stampede won 6-2. Woo woo! We had a great time. Actually, I enjoyed it way more that I thought I would!<br />

In other news, I was out at a Show Choir competition on Saturday which is why I didn't blog. But hey, we made finals and landed 3rd place! This is VERY exciting for us, because the choirs that got 1st and 2nd definitely deserved it. Go team.<br />
<br />
And that, folks, was my weekend. All that plus an epic 3-hour nap, necessitated by aforementioned Show Choir Competition. Ugh. Time to face another week!Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-80568989357838911322011-02-25T21:25:00.000-06:002011-02-25T21:25:40.742-06:00Living Fabulously Sans SeafoodMy hubby and I like what some people would call "fancy" food. The problem is, a lot of what I'd call fancy food involves shrimp, scallops, or some other unsavory sort of sea creature. I grew up in a state that is completely landlocked. I could not live anywhere else in the country and be further from the sea than I am now. Neither one of us grew up eating fish or seafood. Yes, I've tried it time and time again over the years. (I even lived in Japan for a year and was forced to eat it on many occasions.) I want to like it, I just don't. I sort of disappoint myself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD2xYs_S1fkf1vy6nlH3GX0d-8G0Kj7-ysPopzNuh4kkyD1Y6vXz6XcVKl8aGB59xuvvSCUph8k-p0Z1kub_dWUN2pOt982sP3DDC7Ji6ZuV-Va_sR9Zak8PuukyPe5nOZPeqDVUthrwvE/s1600/shrimp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD2xYs_S1fkf1vy6nlH3GX0d-8G0Kj7-ysPopzNuh4kkyD1Y6vXz6XcVKl8aGB59xuvvSCUph8k-p0Z1kub_dWUN2pOt982sP3DDC7Ji6ZuV-Va_sR9Zak8PuukyPe5nOZPeqDVUthrwvE/s400/shrimp.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Heterocarpus_ensifer.jpg">(credit)</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ewwwwww! Who can eat that thing?! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Tangent: One time in high school my friends and I dared each other to eat shrimp cocktail at a party. We all just about threw up. I couldn't even chew it. </div><br />
(For the record, I do eat tuna from the can/pouch thing. That's it, though.)<br />
<br />
Anyway, one of the fancy foods that I've always wanted to try is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paella">paella</a>. I think the concept sounds fabulous, and it always looks really tasty. However, there are usually large chunks of sea-dwelling creatures floating in it. No thanks. That is, until T, Betty Crocker and I discovered Betty's recipe for <i>chicken</i> paella!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIE-3viFNcW7CnthCg6pGqYR1EeTWHG-nZHpnZQJBNJ88rDo36Bbc8OYAkq97av7ruL2Xfj0SL2xco7oS1vzUgd_J73jXj6v1IblzyiqbU5M6ze_5WyJYkLF0C7FQEqNqDyf-4GfUiXdYz/s1600/DSC09167.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIE-3viFNcW7CnthCg6pGqYR1EeTWHG-nZHpnZQJBNJ88rDo36Bbc8OYAkq97av7ruL2Xfj0SL2xco7oS1vzUgd_J73jXj6v1IblzyiqbU5M6ze_5WyJYkLF0C7FQEqNqDyf-4GfUiXdYz/s400/DSC09167.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
(We've already devoured half of it, as you can see!) It involves lots of paprika, rice, peas, raisins, chicken, and chorizo! Num num! We didn't know we liked chorizo until we tried this recipe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_lcjtLGVSEW4zmnrpbTONHG34Z-zwtzJSrH5N-xIehWDW6DSuq58FAYklEc3at8OVbBiXZ3GNMJFzwx3Mi7VrdL-PrdS_umCJjPXn2LlRm-4m0_eQT0qnKigmHq0yX2e55L9p3vgW5yKz/s1600/DSC09172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_lcjtLGVSEW4zmnrpbTONHG34Z-zwtzJSrH5N-xIehWDW6DSuq58FAYklEc3at8OVbBiXZ3GNMJFzwx3Mi7VrdL-PrdS_umCJjPXn2LlRm-4m0_eQT0qnKigmHq0yX2e55L9p3vgW5yKz/s400/DSC09172.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
T picked up a loaf of tasty french bread too. Yum. I'm so glad that my hubby can cook! And, it's safe to say, you can make delish paella without seafood!<br />
<br />
Am I the only one who wishes that they could force themselves into liking seafood?Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-63749782849660390182011-02-24T21:39:00.001-06:002011-06-17T09:34:16.254-05:00Pyrex LoveI had a funny realization this afternoon: the subtitle on my blog is "A modern girl's guide to living fabulously." Yet, the last few posts have had absolutely nothing modern in them. I guess I should update the subtitle to include my love for all things mod vintage!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I wanted to share with you a new little collection I've started. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_xRB4q5ys9xfSq0nATJXm08lfGM74efbBuDZDWifsozShmgUHQeuCj-HkYQhoMH_6TK5dS7qBE-JZKic5R_fBgpzK6CgJ5KzjozTnjkd2lFcKXO1MKXkWwACFzktvelrwuBoQVU8ZiJ3n/s1600/DSC09149.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_xRB4q5ys9xfSq0nATJXm08lfGM74efbBuDZDWifsozShmgUHQeuCj-HkYQhoMH_6TK5dS7qBE-JZKic5R_fBgpzK6CgJ5KzjozTnjkd2lFcKXO1MKXkWwACFzktvelrwuBoQVU8ZiJ3n/s400/DSC09149.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's my vintage pyrex collection! It all started one night at Savers when T and I discovered a lonely little turquoise divided casserole dish (on the left in the picture.) I had to have it, so I took it home and started doing a bit of <a href="http://www.pyrexlove.com/in/vintage-color-patterns/horizon-blue/">research</a>. As it turns out, the clear lid with swirls on it is not the original, but what did I know? It was just a fun piece. Little did I know that it was only the preamble of my pyrex love!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdLGdRbGX8KHliGJdt24HDu8iyhNZvIzv9OI05L7ILxA47RDxUSnEDs2hFLjoE8dXPANoPct1eBY4zp3L4egQazv2rjl8wABVcfnWHJKw4wz_CKi7m5DVOmDe3N_BsBUqwRjauvOLpIYua/s1600/DSC09152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdLGdRbGX8KHliGJdt24HDu8iyhNZvIzv9OI05L7ILxA47RDxUSnEDs2hFLjoE8dXPANoPct1eBY4zp3L4egQazv2rjl8wABVcfnWHJKw4wz_CKi7m5DVOmDe3N_BsBUqwRjauvOLpIYua/s320/DSC09152.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I came to find out that the pattern is called Horizon Blue and it was produced in the early 1970's. We just love the color! The next dish that we found was the covered casserole dish on the right. We found it an an antique store, which is where we later found the two big mixing bowls a few weeks later. (Actually, the story is pretty awesome. I found them in a booth marked "KEEP OUT" under a pile of newspaper but they had a price tag on them, so the cashier sold them to me!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8p3zZLnua4pVr9bj4HJ21arRynCF3AdgO1xwRSPx-pwOALNoIq-8oUAH3GJjD1AQ3N4Zxic2dZnc4xh1h0b8SRP3M_6CG2-xacCXwqDH8Ea2Qp23-SHBfq-Le0YIqswBUyd4AcAsFp-yl/s1600/DSC09163.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8p3zZLnua4pVr9bj4HJ21arRynCF3AdgO1xwRSPx-pwOALNoIq-8oUAH3GJjD1AQ3N4Zxic2dZnc4xh1h0b8SRP3M_6CG2-xacCXwqDH8Ea2Qp23-SHBfq-Le0YIqswBUyd4AcAsFp-yl/s400/DSC09163.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The last little guy in the middle we found at the flea market a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen this style in person before, so we weren't even sure if it was our pattern. I consulted the pyrex authority, <a href="http://www.pyrexlove.com/">Pyrex Love</a> and sure enough, it was! (This little guy is my favorite.) I love how the pattern is sort of art deco, which makes it look older than it really is. And yet, I think it's actually kind of a contemporary design!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, now you know what to get me for St. Patty's Day: a cupboard full of pyrex, please! Anybody else collect vintage pyrex??</div>Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-74139390133832934522011-02-23T21:13:00.001-06:002011-06-17T09:34:45.955-05:00Super Bowl Treasure!I am so excited to share with you our latest project. I saw <a href="http://curbly.com/megallancole/posts/9271-how-to-convert-a-secondhand-cabinet-into-a-bar">this awesome chevron bar tutorial</a> on curbly.com over Christmas break and was dying to try and duplicate it. I<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVXfZO0hYZaJOPbmQoIre_XH6b1IcNedFWEcATyv67Vj-CkQHqsOH20NYnNxzA7SmT8KR0gEQcISEuIUrJQA3goUPZpbtiBeCXItvW14HhvjoiSKZwhfOqYJupKEjFJ1QGR9WjW86P1kNw/s1600/chevron+bar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVXfZO0hYZaJOPbmQoIre_XH6b1IcNedFWEcATyv67Vj-CkQHqsOH20NYnNxzA7SmT8KR0gEQcISEuIUrJQA3goUPZpbtiBeCXItvW14HhvjoiSKZwhfOqYJupKEjFJ1QGR9WjW86P1kNw/s640/chevron+bar.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
The makeover was inspired by the show "Mad Men" and T and I thought the bold chevron pattern was perfect for our style. I even had the perfect spot planned out in our basement. <br />
<br />
On Super Bowl Sunday T and I decided to make a quick stop at Goodwill before we went to my parents' party. I thought it might take us awhile to find a cabinet that would work, but I was wrong! We walked in the door, saw this beauty and were out again in less than 5 minutes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLHY60r4KdjwECpUaFJLfpdRUh_758GypG6IUc7y9vH28dObC_3iSf_m-DW8jO0dGCD1iBjYzqX0ZJzcHT59Qyodly_SE5G1T5Bg3ASj2syIIdhnVPbL6dqeSbwF9ECT5xZVvd0RyNnnzc/s1600/DSC09043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLHY60r4KdjwECpUaFJLfpdRUh_758GypG6IUc7y9vH28dObC_3iSf_m-DW8jO0dGCD1iBjYzqX0ZJzcHT59Qyodly_SE5G1T5Bg3ASj2syIIdhnVPbL6dqeSbwF9ECT5xZVvd0RyNnnzc/s400/DSC09043.jpg" width="390" /></a></div><br />
It was a no brainer! This is actually the finished product. The early stages weren't quite as lovely. T and I think that somebody converted it from an old TV to the cabinet that it currently is. You can kind of see the two light circles on the left panel where it looks like there would have been speakers. There was even a little tag on the inside telling you how to change the vacuum tube!<br />
<br />
We made quite a few adjustments ourselves! First, we pained the top black. It was an originally an icky brown mock-wood color and it just didn't fit. We then decided to paint the bottom shelf black to match. There's actually caning on that shelf but it was a nasty gray color that didn't match the side panels. Trust me, it's much better in black! We added the black felt on the inside to give it a bit of class, replaced the knobs on the glass (there were none, originally) and added the little golden medallions. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHT_9ArdHsjAGvtFAgrpfHbfMZhIfJnJCRC4ztQXWLJ800-DX5rWwSjMclO5UMUBPwS9JAFHqvORu71KgY99Bz84Q9Gv8fPIevZTvhyC087wREd-uDxidN3f_4iEKJn4ynL7pQcu_bdJY0/s1600/DSC09045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHT_9ArdHsjAGvtFAgrpfHbfMZhIfJnJCRC4ztQXWLJ800-DX5rWwSjMclO5UMUBPwS9JAFHqvORu71KgY99Bz84Q9Gv8fPIevZTvhyC087wREd-uDxidN3f_4iEKJn4ynL7pQcu_bdJY0/s400/DSC09045.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
There are two little random holes in the caning and there were two wooden plugs that went inside them. I'm guessing that was originally something for the speakers for the tv, but really we have no idea. In any case, they needed to be covered. I wanted something vintage, but Hobby Lobby does not carry many vintage-looking medallions. I found these in the bead aisle and thought they at least matched the gold on the glass doors. So, after a good scrubbing, some paint, and a little elbow grease, our treasure is complete! <br />
<br />
We're still in accessorizing mode, but so far we have picked up a few treasures. We got these retro coin glasses for $3 total. They're kind of hard to see, but they have coins from different countries all over them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzc1V-pRhm6MisLngTQHJI7oHk1_LIm3lGYukP9lVEB9C_dXpgpnrVvzJX7dCUeVEt4qf_A-V6GidXYSZhtvCR2RDlwpjONKkF5qMvqD560ee1xveSDN0kd4QzkBuWS0M8W9WfKF9J9vg/s1600/DSC09058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzc1V-pRhm6MisLngTQHJI7oHk1_LIm3lGYukP9lVEB9C_dXpgpnrVvzJX7dCUeVEt4qf_A-V6GidXYSZhtvCR2RDlwpjONKkF5qMvqD560ee1xveSDN0kd4QzkBuWS0M8W9WfKF9J9vg/s640/DSC09058.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
We also got this fun little guy:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio9m7A3p7eZxOBEVH_t6vAbH_vZvOnVvhQMEpUEvbMg7PiTsddPAcGj2gg6MhuqR3LT66ea8DErij8Ur9O-jBCv4_uJrBr5EBpymKlnXGbQjDexqam_Tz2IQ9WuJWlE7w14Ep8eM2VrdAl/s1600/DSC09062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio9m7A3p7eZxOBEVH_t6vAbH_vZvOnVvhQMEpUEvbMg7PiTsddPAcGj2gg6MhuqR3LT66ea8DErij8Ur9O-jBCv4_uJrBr5EBpymKlnXGbQjDexqam_Tz2IQ9WuJWlE7w14Ep8eM2VrdAl/s400/DSC09062.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
I had my eye on that baby for awhile before I finally talked T into buying it at Savers earlier this week. I even left the price tag on it. It came with the original warranty and directions! I love it! The only sad thing is that it's missing the lid. Oh well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLHY60r4KdjwECpUaFJLfpdRUh_758GypG6IUc7y9vH28dObC_3iSf_m-DW8jO0dGCD1iBjYzqX0ZJzcHT59Qyodly_SE5G1T5Bg3ASj2syIIdhnVPbL6dqeSbwF9ECT5xZVvd0RyNnnzc/s1600/DSC09043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLHY60r4KdjwECpUaFJLfpdRUh_758GypG6IUc7y9vH28dObC_3iSf_m-DW8jO0dGCD1iBjYzqX0ZJzcHT59Qyodly_SE5G1T5Bg3ASj2syIIdhnVPbL6dqeSbwF9ECT5xZVvd0RyNnnzc/s400/DSC09043.jpg" width="390" /></a></div><br />
<br />
So, although our bar ended up looking <i>nothing</i> like our inspiration, we love it. Any thoughts on accessories we should add?Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-31763645530277562442011-02-22T20:28:00.001-06:002011-02-22T20:29:14.110-06:00Little Emily HomemakerI didn't have school yesterday so I decided to get down with my domestic self. I had adventures in the kitchen! Allow me to share with you. <br />
<br />
First of all, do you know of this fabulous website called <a href="http://www.supercook.com/">Supercook</a>? You enter in all of the ingredients you already have and it searches a bunch of recipe websites for recipes to make! It even has a feature where you can highlight an ingredient you know you want to use and it will focus on that ingredient. (I highlighted chicken, for example.) I've used this website several times for ideas but I've never actually made anything until yesterday. It was all very exciting!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibQqLLxhGTczFEX5wNJimyj0nnp9et6qOxY6Qc-SNDnIA8s99pZBppJv3eA9tpbrP5zgdQkr0rVSWSPckZHvOcJ3nQovlYIU0g09EtCVa4lWa8HqOaYUE1nTMmFLnyRS_dqIspG9ZeLI9F/s1600/DSC09024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibQqLLxhGTczFEX5wNJimyj0nnp9et6qOxY6Qc-SNDnIA8s99pZBppJv3eA9tpbrP5zgdQkr0rVSWSPckZHvOcJ3nQovlYIU0g09EtCVa4lWa8HqOaYUE1nTMmFLnyRS_dqIspG9ZeLI9F/s400/DSC09024.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
<br />
While searching through the approximately 2,000 recipes it returned, I found this beauty: <a href="http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Baked-Paprika-Parmesan-Chicken/Detail.aspx">Baked Paprika-Parmesan Chicken.</a> Oh my dear goodness, it was HEAVENLY!!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheq7RBT8LjIXtDbOSUQtOIF4F5hIKg9EwAEwqNKmwtp3Ilvnqf_pLGpruMk7wcUsYMMADrFFa8sZRlUMaX0SamzY_xobAPC8dDRSBysPASSr2d7q8W4zUnrGl70Da9aUYXiAl-nHXfhYDz/s1600/DSC09030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheq7RBT8LjIXtDbOSUQtOIF4F5hIKg9EwAEwqNKmwtp3Ilvnqf_pLGpruMk7wcUsYMMADrFFa8sZRlUMaX0SamzY_xobAPC8dDRSBysPASSr2d7q8W4zUnrGl70Da9aUYXiAl-nHXfhYDz/s400/DSC09030.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Then I decided to be super-ambitious and make a dessert too! We had seriously about 3 bags of frozen blueberries in our freezer (guess who likes blueberries in her waffles?!) and so I decided to give this recipe a try: <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/blueberry-upside-down-cake">Blueberry Upside-Down Cake</a>. Oh my goodness, not only did this smell delicious, it tasted even better! There is nothing better than hot blueberries straight out of the oven. Mmmmm.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGSrZuaEin6_WJZlbvcPcd1Gda_R3t3_1s-aIa5ErkW2YVXdzZOz33WvxBSCpwwQjC5RNnu0cJYN2KgNi5TXNv4gRdZS-BD_pqjvE0-eyzHOFcyNtfawlvDQMgVogiAVhmL84dGy_vujDp/s1600/DSC09033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGSrZuaEin6_WJZlbvcPcd1Gda_R3t3_1s-aIa5ErkW2YVXdzZOz33WvxBSCpwwQjC5RNnu0cJYN2KgNi5TXNv4gRdZS-BD_pqjvE0-eyzHOFcyNtfawlvDQMgVogiAVhmL84dGy_vujDp/s400/DSC09033.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I'm back! Well, at least, I'm going to try this whole blog thing again.<br />
<br />
So you saw our new house, and now I'm pleased to say that we're all moved in and I have been working on projects gallore! But today, I wanted to show you my favorite room of the house, the living room.<br />
<br />
Remember <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2010/04/i-want-this-room.html">this post</a> from a few months ago with my inspiration room? I absolutely fell in love with this room, and T did too. I so badly wanted to include the honeysuckle pink chairs, but T said no. I suppose it would have been a bit too girly for him.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicUMzXzSjkvt1paEBxTrOk2GKGbEl5pDMeqzmItzHoelfCkxjQd7H-JUGh744zW-6krSerDWyPkVVqlBiJ4xrMBfH2AW3lkBhx7NAvZJnZ6sWxkc8z8TT7pTZe6ecb2HiuGKv77n5FJBoM/s1600/540226800_xRmmd-O.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicUMzXzSjkvt1paEBxTrOk2GKGbEl5pDMeqzmItzHoelfCkxjQd7H-JUGh744zW-6krSerDWyPkVVqlBiJ4xrMBfH2AW3lkBhx7NAvZJnZ6sWxkc8z8TT7pTZe6ecb2HiuGKv77n5FJBoM/s400/540226800_xRmmd-O.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Here's the before that we had to work with. This picture was taken while we were touring the house for the first time. (That's the realtor on the left.) I thought it just seemed dark in there. And, perhaps a few too many clocks, no? Maybe they were world travelers that needed a clock for 4 different time zones. Who knows? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgP8-curq_oV-vtLB2Vu1klOMvYRaMPSQ6g369tddQoP9gTLczD-SP-qugyfxS11bhumncfvVUUTD-4b9hSTiwETg_Ms73lfXLUKo84fJWNFXLRVWJwXwaGQCyUwZIUfIu66rqDukiodlE/s1600/100_0066.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgP8-curq_oV-vtLB2Vu1klOMvYRaMPSQ6g369tddQoP9gTLczD-SP-qugyfxS11bhumncfvVUUTD-4b9hSTiwETg_Ms73lfXLUKo84fJWNFXLRVWJwXwaGQCyUwZIUfIu66rqDukiodlE/s400/100_0066.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Last time I posted I was trying to talk my mom into the idea of a turquoise room. Here's what we ended up with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-6M3wURQ944zdHV-tVBdF-kTj-r12Dl8fALMF7IBMYjhcRbiqTxSUE_kSS1WC7yw_BNrEaprmHTw_GBdxXivGkafV3PXe1A-AkefA59nchl_htJBCAyOeFEID7IeVh-sWkEmCxW30n99O/s1600/living+room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-6M3wURQ944zdHV-tVBdF-kTj-r12Dl8fALMF7IBMYjhcRbiqTxSUE_kSS1WC7yw_BNrEaprmHTw_GBdxXivGkafV3PXe1A-AkefA59nchl_htJBCAyOeFEID7IeVh-sWkEmCxW30n99O/s400/living+room.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Ted spent about a half hour trying to convince me that the turquoise would be ok. I was convinced it was going to be neon and would burn our retinas every time the sun came out. Not true. I actually love the brightness! Notice the fireplace? It's fake. Who puts in a faux fireplace in a 1932 house? Oh well, at least it hold candles quite nicely. Also, I give you permission to drool over our crown molding. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7TYyYIczQkwMNc6JDl4jUK-EcY2yjQiBwEdRhOhdgCClKkPygSELafirO5ULIfKk7zY4ZZBJOfCuud-Gn3MD4AKLbkfp50asX_vCpYjHkzhXcCqxwNDWdXTja1XCJTJ2Uezs7iX2ILcwz/s1600/living+room+bookcase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7TYyYIczQkwMNc6JDl4jUK-EcY2yjQiBwEdRhOhdgCClKkPygSELafirO5ULIfKk7zY4ZZBJOfCuud-Gn3MD4AKLbkfp50asX_vCpYjHkzhXcCqxwNDWdXTja1XCJTJ2Uezs7iX2ILcwz/s400/living+room+bookcase.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
You'll notice that we ripped up the carpet and had the wood floors refinished. You can barely see it, but we have a zebra rug! It's not in the inspiration room, but I couldn't resist. See the photo hanging on the wall on the right? It's a T original. We found the frame at a garage sale for $5 and painted it black.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuD1AbaeRz-cledSJy5zWYH-K5gDwL0aCdbdkHplxzWTTzC_2-k3BDNyCF34gnUbbwUq9viEu09ueMtN_jlW2xt4L3ZeNmimHWAs6uyIJ-q3KtG4PD39R2RgyM6HA9Bzll1eVmK-hshjtu/s1600/living+room+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuD1AbaeRz-cledSJy5zWYH-K5gDwL0aCdbdkHplxzWTTzC_2-k3BDNyCF34gnUbbwUq9viEu09ueMtN_jlW2xt4L3ZeNmimHWAs6uyIJ-q3KtG4PD39R2RgyM6HA9Bzll1eVmK-hshjtu/s400/living+room+front.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This is by far my favorite room in our new house. Want to see more "before" pics? Click <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2010/04/big-news.html">here</a>. More project updates to come!<br />

From looking at these pics, you'd think that things are still pretty brown up here. Not so. These hills are brown year-round. I guess that's the prairie for ya. <br />
<br />
I will miss this place. Not just the people, but the beauty of the open prairie. I totally stole this from <a href="http://www.houseofturquoise.com/">House of Turquoise</a>, who stole it from <a href="http://www.nestinstinct.com/">her</a> courtesty of <a href="http://www.hgtv.com/">HGTV</a>. God bless the internet.<br />
<br />
We're currently trying to decide how to decorate our new house and where to put all our furniture, what we need to buy, what to paint, etc., etc. I had to sit through 2.5 hrs of Talent Show auditions today and in between auditions I dug through House of Turquoise's archives of rooms with turquoise, black, and white. I love them all. I think I have found my house inspiration. This one's pretty sweet too:<br />

Yes, that really is yellow houndstooth linoleum. We're gutting the kitchen.<br />
<br />
There are 3 legal bedrooms, 1 bath, and something that T is calling his "gun room." (It's a hole in the wall really, which will house his guns.) <br />
<br />
Today I told my students that I was leaving. Boy oh boy, there were tears. Lots and lots of tears. Somehow, I managed to hold it all together, but I think that if I would have lost it they ALL would have lost it. It was really hard. I had so many nice comments from kids afterwards and lots and LOTS of hugs. They all even gathered around me for a ginormous group hug. How sweet, eh? I love it. I love them. After lunch I came back to my room with stuff like this written on the board:<br />
<br />
"The Danger Zone is under construction"<br />
"We were but lead and you turned us into gold"<br />
"We Love You"<br />
<br />
and a poem that is just entirely too long to post here. Man, we sure are praying that this is the right decision. I'm gonna miss them like mad.Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-78759278598719609682010-04-10T17:02:00.001-05:002010-04-10T23:48:56.655-05:003 Things I LoveToday I decided that it would be nice to post about things that I love.<br />
I love my job. Yesterday we hosted our region's Large Group Music Contest. We had about 12 different schools come to perform for a panel of judges, receive comments, and a rating. All 3 of my choirs performed and they all received a "I" rating! (That's the highest, with a V being the lowest. I was soooooo proud of them! We were aiming for a I+, but very few ensembles even received I's, let alone putting a + after it. Phew. I'm glad that's over, though. There was a lot of stress leading up to the big event! I'll post videos as soon as they're done uploading to YouTube. Our internet is apparently really slow.<br />

Nori and I spent all morning together, just chillin' on the couch. This afternoon I opened up the patio door to let her experience the wonders of outdoor smells. She's a bit of a fraidy cat, so she sat under the table for awhile first, but then her curiosity trumped her fear, I guess, because she's been sitting at the door for quite some time now.<br />

Oh, Nori! My mom bought her a fuschia cat bed for Easter that she has yet to use, but we're trying to convince her to use it.<br />

</a></div>I love my house. This afternoon I baked banana bread, did laundry, washed my rugs, did dishes, and tidied up our little nest. I just love living here. It's tiny, yes, and it's not ours, I know, but I still love it. Maybe because it's the first place T and I have had together. Maybe it's the open kitchen. Maybe it's the deck with the spring breeze wafting in, or maybe it's the overwhelming scent of fresh banana bread right now. I don't know. All I know is that this place feels like home. Sigh. <br />

I'm so proud of them!!!!!Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12612671895692439079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1286642952823842385.post-19653934285711151092010-04-06T21:24:00.000-05:002010-04-06T21:24:46.315-05:00The Desk Debaucle Concludes...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We had a lovely Easter weekend. A very busy and crazy weekend, but a lovely one nonetheless. We got to see T's family, and we haven't seen them since Thanksgiving due to the ginormous winter storm over Christmas. That, and T's mom winters in Florida. Yup, FLORIDA. We have some big news to share too, but we're not quite ready to share it yet. Don't even ask: I'm not pregnant. I know that was the first thing that popped into your mind.....ha!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Remember the little blue desk that I posted about <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2010/04/good-friday-desk-debacle.html">here</a>? Well, we were hoping to go get it today, but alas, it was gone. T went to pick it up when the store opened this morning, and apparently there were like 30 people lined up to get in the store! Can you believe that? 30 people to get into the thrift store!! They must restock on Mondays when they're closed. That's the only thing I can figure...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, T called me from the store and said that he found this little guy for half the price:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Hooray for Easter! We enjoyed the most moving of Good Friday services with my family last night. I was in tears by the end. It was the last song that pushed me over. A good family friend sang a duet with our music director. She used to sing duets just like this with her husband who just recently passed away. It was a first time she sang a duet with anyone else besides him and all I could think about was how strong she was to keep praising the Lord in these difficult circumstances. By the end it was all I could do to stay in my seat and not go comfort her, because by the end, she was streaming tears too. Praise the Lord we'll see her husband in heaven someday!<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Ah. Now about the desk. After I talked to a few of you via facebook and your comments on the last <a href="http://edangerzone.blogspot.com/2010/04/new-look.html">post</a>, T and I decided that the desk must be ours!</div><div><br />

</div><div>Our thrift stores are silly and decide to close at 5:30pm. Poo. By the time T got off work and I showed him this pic, the store had long since closed. We had planned on stopping by and buying it before we left town yesterday, but we weren't sure what time the store opened. We stopped by around 8ish and of course they didn't open until 10. We weren't about to wait around for another 2 hours. Poo again. My mom suggested that we call them at 10 and see if they'd put a hold on it so we could pick it up on Tuesday. Apparently not. The manager was kind of a stinker and just flat out said, "puh, you think we have the room to store stuff for people? No. No layaway, no holds, cash and carry only." I thought he'd just walk back and put a hold sign on it. Apparently not.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Well, T is off work on Tuesday morning. (Our favorite little thrift stop is closed on Sunday and Monday.) Hopefully no furniture refinishers were in town yesterday and snagged our desk before we can get to it! The saga continues...<br />

P.S. I tried to fix the comments section, I think it works now. Stupid template. Grrrr.<br />
<br />
Will you do me a favor? If you try to leave a comment and are unable to, will you send me an e-mail? Just a note to say, "hey, this new template doesn't work either" would suffice! emsensei{at}gmail{dot}com. Julia from <a href="http://www.hookedonhouses.net/">Hooked On Houses</a> stopped by and couldn't leave a comment. (I about threw up when I saw she e-mailed me instead!) I'm such a dork...to be e-mailed by Julia! My hero!<br />
<br />
Okay, it's voting time. I went thrifting today and brought home some treasures and found two awesome pieces that need rescuing:<br />
<br />
an awesome dresser:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinNGPHWn0AmpBpdcCcYd3HGRP5KiWAiSv694czGvzZTJmr16FJNdYrcgS22jcGH94EkvUxgZOFR5xJbjE4FKbwqD-BJWT1jLltKrHQD2-QGj5QraRqRJd6NHipoigDeZWOdVY2w9fdoOOh/s1600/100_0054.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinNGPHWn0AmpBpdcCcYd3HGRP5KiWAiSv694czGvzZTJmr16FJNdYrcgS22jcGH94EkvUxgZOFR5xJbjE4FKbwqD-BJWT1jLltKrHQD2-QGj5QraRqRJd6NHipoigDeZWOdVY2w9fdoOOh/s400/100_0054.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">and an equally (if not more) awesome desk:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoT_YPnEZY-VT1Y4t3br4PfojG7zA1VOoQjD7AC9fUuxcsbFZFARNjZjzOvR8KdAjk6RQfOzZ6soWZCWx5YJcap-qcfoBBreVBz2bXhrDvo0FnDCdtCBrvWByjufZHOu_QennPIuTQozxF/s1600/100_0055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoT_YPnEZY-VT1Y4t3br4PfojG7zA1VOoQjD7AC9fUuxcsbFZFARNjZjzOvR8KdAjk6RQfOzZ6soWZCWx5YJcap-qcfoBBreVBz2bXhrDvo0FnDCdtCBrvWByjufZHOu_QennPIuTQozxF/s320/100_0055.JPG" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The thought had occurred to me to make this into a vanity somehow. What a treasure! We might have to pick it up on our way out of town tomorrow...tee hee. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Okay so which do you like better? Which piece deserves a new life?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Normal, except they changed the firewall so now I can access blogland at work! This could be very dangerous indeed! As I was checking my blog traffic this morning, I got to thinking. I put up so many pics of my home, maybe you'd like to see my second home! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my choir room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGmrM71tnr4DCOT8X_wOgsDpeCEVv0PgYYh5S0e_riaBUQ9U4z8gHjChSdzZlGfXY9fz7pY0pVv29MboiodG7-7_KBx2np283uBtJqHcSXbzK4SQguOPy-qhmoK3iPa2yDJIkhyphenhyphenmjOuAFS/s1600/100_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGmrM71tnr4DCOT8X_wOgsDpeCEVv0PgYYh5S0e_riaBUQ9U4z8gHjChSdzZlGfXY9fz7pY0pVv29MboiodG7-7_KBx2np283uBtJqHcSXbzK4SQguOPy-qhmoK3iPa2yDJIkhyphenhyphenmjOuAFS/s400/100_0045.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yup, here's where the magic happens. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's true. The only thing better than singing really is more singing. I used fabric for my bulletin boards instead of paper, cause it's reusable! I think I bought it at Mill End Textiles for something like $1 a yard or something. That solfege chart is my new best friend. See how famous we are? Check out the newpaper clippings about us. Yay publicity!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love that I have a little sneaky window into the choir room. See my travel posters on the wall? Always dreaming of some faraway place. <sigh.></sigh.></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hey, I'm making it my new goal to have at least 2 new followers every week. So, if you're an occasional reader, would you mind leaving a comment and saying hi? It's nice to make new friends in blogland. And, if you leave a link to your blog, I promise I'll give it a read!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
